JOSEPH BEDFORD

AE Founder and Director

Joseph Bedford is Associate Professor of History and Theory at Virginia Tech. He holds a PhD in architecture from Princeton University, degrees in Architecture from Cambridge University and the Cooper Union, and was the recipient of the 2008–2009 Rome Scholarship at the British School in Rome. He has taught at Princeton University, Pratt Institute, and Columbia University and he has published in ARQ, AA Files, OASE and Log. 

Matthew Allen

Memo Editor and AE Dialogue Moderator

Matthew Allen is a visiting assistant professor at Washington University who studies the history and theory of architecture, technology, and visual culture. He holds a PhD and a Master of Architecture degree from Harvard University and has published in Log, the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians, Domus, the New York Review of Architecture, and Architectural Record. 

Alex Maymind

AE Dialogues Moderator

Alex Maymind is an educator, designer, and architectural historian. He is an assistant professor at the University of Minnesota School of Architecture where he most recently served as the Director of Undergraduate Studies. He holds a Ph.D. from UCLA and a Master of Architecture from Yale University School of Architecture.

Jeremy Lecomte

AE Dialogues Moderator

Jeremy Lecomte is a researcher and theorist working at the intersection of architecture and political ecology. He is Associate Professor (SHSA) at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture Versailles (France), where he directs the MA studio “La ville sans cesse”, the MA seminar “Philosophie politique de la nature”, and, together with Nicolas Dorval-Bory, the final degree studio “Fictions critiques”.

Dora Epstein Jones

AE Dialogues Moderator

Dora Epstein Jones, PhD, is a theorist who studies the discipline and culture of architecture. Her work explores disciplinary boundaries and orders of control. Her writings engage topics related to tectonics, prefabrication, mobile housing, feminism, architectural drawings, new practices, innovation, and AI, all as a means of exposing the multiple operations of exclusion. Her background as an activist and urban planner inform her approaches. She is currently a Professor of Practice at the University of Texas at Austin.

David Turturo

AE Dialogues Moderator

David Turturo, an architect, historian, and assistant professor at Texas Tech University, explores figuration in architecture from antiquity to the present, with an emphasis on the late 20th century. Turturo’s Yale Ph.D. dissertation is being developed into the book Caryatid: Architecture and the Framing of Bodies.

Lauren McQuistion

AE Dialogues Moderator

Lauren McQuistion is a designer, researcher, historian, and Assistant Professor of Architecture at the University of New Mexico. Her scholarship, recognized by leading institutions and scholarly networks, bridges architectural history, theory, and practice, with expertise in typology, temporality, and twentieth- and twenty-first-century art and architecture.

Frederike Lausch

AE Dialogues Moderator

Frederike Lausch is an architectural historian and co-founder of the Center for Critical Studies in Architecture (CCSA). Her research examines the political implications of 20th-century architectural discourses. She is currently focused on the Communication Centre of Scientific Knowledge for Self-Reliance and the intersection of ecological thinking and development politics in the 1970s and 1980s.

Frida Grahn

AE Dialogues Moderator

Frida Grahn is an architectural historian with degrees from ETH Zurich and a PhD from USI Mendrisio. She has published in journals such as Architectural Theory Review, Cloud-Cuckoo-Land, Archithese, and the Nordic Review of Architecture. She is the editor of Denise Scott Brown. In Other Eyes (Birkhäuser, 2022) and is currently developing new research on architectural media and transnational exchange.
